Data and Quality Analyst
To Strengthen Our Systems and Requirements Analysis Team in the Washington, DC Metro Area
Language and Computing (L&C) is a dynamic privately held company that solves the problem of unstructured text data management by empowering computers with an understanding of text. The technology that makes this possible is called Natural Language Processing (NLP). Applications that L&C develops using this technology include:
- Automated clinical coding (ICD, SNOMED, etc.) of clinical free text
- Terminology and Ontology Management Systems
- Indexing documents based on the meaning of the text
- Search and retrieval solutions that outperform relevancy schemes of other retrieval engines
- Knowledge Management, Semantic Web and many others
We are healthcare focused and our customers include HIT vendors, healthcare providers and government institutions.
General Task Description: In order to guarantee the quality of automated document analysis, we analyze large collections of documents. The analysis is used for development of system requirements, specifications, and testing/QA criteria. To expand our Systems and Requirements Analysis team, we are seeking healthcare credentialed coding professionals (RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CCS-P, CPC) with a minimum of 5 years experience to analyze collections of medical texts. The successful candidate is responsible for:
Qualifications and Experience:
- Self-directed management of multiple projects with careful attention to project delivery dates
- Coding medical documents according to standard coding systems such as ICD, CPT, HCPCS Level II
- Annotating the underlying medical reasoning when coding using state-of-the-art tools.
- Defining internal and external guidelines for annotating and coding documents using a variety of sources (handbooks, the internet, customer documentation, sample text).
- Assisting with quality control of manually as well as automatically annotated documents by checking whether the annotation guidelines were correctly applied and comparing the results of NLP-automated annotations to the manual ones.
- Participating in projects with our customers and co-operating with our team of software developers and medical ontologists.
- Maintaining relevancy of skills as they relate to coding systems and internal IT applications.
